We arrived, we built, we made a change.
During Easter 2010 Thrive Africa, UK charity Book-Cycle and volunteers from Loughborough Students Union partnered to deliver six new libraries to six schools with the aim of improving access to educational resources for students.
An estimated 26,000 books were donated and shipped to our project base in Kumasi through our partnership with Book-Cycle.
Over the course of the 2 week trip 14 volunteers sawed, sanded, sealed, varnished, nailed and constructed bookcases for each library. From plastering to painting we did it all in order to get these libraries completed, filled high with books each library will now offer students access to reading materials both factual and fictional to further their education.
Books, whiteboards, sports equipment and other materials were also delivered to several other schools whom we didn’t have time to help during this trip. Plans have been formulated to continue to support these schools and many more over the next 5 years, as Thrive Africa aims to improve the education given to children across the Ashanti and northern region of Ghana.
A successful partnership by all involved which will continue to grow and deliver more much needed effective projects.
